The Gossard Building is a historic commercial building located in Ishpeming, Michigan. It was constructed in 1888 by Frederick Braastad and a department store that bore his name operated in the building until the 1920’s when it was occupied by the HW GossardCompany, a corset manufacturing company. The building served as the headquarters for the Gossard Company, which employed over 700 workers at its peak. In addition to its corset business, the Gossard Company was also known for pioneering the use of brassieres in America. The Gossard closed as a manufacture in 1976. The Gossard Building is notable for its distinctive Romanesque Revival style architecture, featuring round arched windows, decorative brickwork, and a prominent tower. Today, the Gossard Building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has been restored as a mixed-use development with , offices and retail space.

OUR PRESENT

The Gossard was lovingly restored and cared for by Paul and Sandy Arsenault after the Gossard Company’s departure. In 2023 the property was purchased by Snowbelt Development which is a group composed of 4 local owner operators. Today the Gossard provides a vibrant and historic home for several office and retail tenants. Snowbelt Development is working to provide not just a place to live or do business, but also a community across our network of West End Properties across Ishpeming, MI.
